# Pastebin dIjYrYnU You will be aware of the fire that occurred in Oakridge Road on 27 May. We want to provide you with an update on our response to the fire and what the next steps will be, but also to provide some reassurance about your own homes. Fortunately, nobody was harmed, but 24 families needed to be evacuated from their homes while the fire service brought the fire under control. Our ongoing priority is to support these customers, and we're working closely with colleagues at Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council to do this. We're pleased that 10 families have been able to return to their homes, and we are supporting the other 14 families to secure alternative accommodation. Our response to the fire The fire started at around 3pm on Saturday 27 May, and the fire service investigation report states the cause of the fire was an accidental human act - the likely cause is indicated to be an electrical extension lead and appliance. We have carried out an investigation of the fire and commissioned a third party independent expert in residential and fire safety to thoroughly review the fire service incident report and the status of the building. That review is now complete. We've had clarification from this review that the building performed as expected under fire conditions and fully met Building Regulations. We've based our assurance to you on this and the South East Fire Investigation Group report. Next steps for the damaged homes We're currently making the building safe so that we can start to recover customers belongings, and then works will start to rebuild the roof and undertake repairs to the rest of the building. We estimate these works will take around 12 months to complete. Compliance and safety checks We have reviewed all aspects of statutory compliance relating to the management and maintenance of the building as part of the investigation. All servicing and certification is up to date and no issues have been found.
