During his presidency, Margate experienced a cultural renaissance, rapid military and economic growth. At the same time, however, his rule was considered to be more autocratic and draconian than his already-authoritarian predecessors' despite maintaining a curtain of democracy via public referendums. ==Biography==
===Early Life===
Slender Mason was hatched on 16 October 2000 in Muçao General Hospital. His father was a [[Puffle'land|Puffish]] tax accountant working for the casino mogul Sam Hu, while his mother was a [[Lisboagal|Lisboagese]]-[[Zhou|Zhouese]] housewife. Slender had a pretty good childhood due to his father's high income from his job and a loving mother. He was the only child in the family.

Because of his racially-diverse family, Slender learned English, Portuguese, Mandarin Chinese and Cantonese. Occasional family visits to his distant cousins in [[Castilla]] also enabled him to speak basic Spanish too. He was enrolled into a prestigious kindergarten and showed above average academic results. At the age of 7, Slender started studying in a private school and excelled in most subjects while performing notably bad in a selective few which he loathed and considered to be boring (such as science and art;despite having a good taste for art later in his life, Slender was never good in producing art himself). 2 years later, his father was promoted to be the Chief Financial Officer of Sam's company.

===Moving to Margate===
However, in 2010, a scandal erupted in Sam's company when it was revealed that he was evading tax by giving false tax returns. Caught in the red, the boss placed the blame on Slender's father, who was charged as a co-conspirator. However, the police offered to reduce his sentence if he agreed to testify against Sam. Obviously, anyone who was made a scapegoat would certainly agree to do so.

In order to prevent his own downfall, Sam used his Triad connections to 'whack him'. On the night of 3rd February of the same year, the Mason family's house was set on fire. While Slender managed to escape with a substantial part of his father's money, his parents were critically injured during the arson. Left to his own means, he decided to use a small part of the money to move to Margate. Upon arriving, he managed to purchase a small one-bedroom apartment in Margate City despite the exorbitant property prices. Slender then used a large portion of the money as capital to invest in stocks and commodities via the Internet.

===Business Career===
Fortunately for him, his investments quickly paid off. Slender was so good at predicting the market that he grouped with several amateur investors like him and founded a hedge fund. The fund managed to earn huge profits for their clients and their own employees. By late 2012, Slender was so successful that he used his money to buy an indebted 'botique' bank for the upper-class and became its owner. He renamed it to the Avaritas Banking Group and expanded the services it provides. Thanks in part to a talented team of employees, these two companies made Slender a billionaire by mid 2013.

In the aftermath of the [[Plague War]], [[Nexon]] was annexed by Margate once more. Noticing the massive deposits of metals, diamonds and fossil fuels on the island, Slender bought several of the business assets previously owned by [[Octavian]]'s government and the [[International Syndicate]]. He merged the energy companies into a single entity known as Petronark, while his mining operations were collectively known as the Heiss & Co. Mining Company. The move encouraged Slender to start investing in other sectors too, making him the main shareholder of several multinational corporations. 

===Revenge and Vindication===
As he was much more influential and wealthy than his enemy Sam Hu by now, Slender started making his move against Sam. He funded a team of expert card counters from the [[USA]] who won over 18 million Club Penguin Coins in one of Sam's smaller casinos one night, nearly draining its money supply dry. Slender also pulled some of his stock manipulation tactics to drive down Sam's company's stock prices. He even bribed Sam's gangster friends to alienate him and create disturbances in his casinos.

Eventually, Sam was forced to concede defeat. He sold most of his casinos to Slender, who transferred them to his cousin Patrick Mason. The defeated mogul was also charged by the government for his exposed Triad connections and tax evasion. On the other hand, Patrick was able to build up a huge gaming empire by his own rights. Because of that, Slender decided to help enrich his own family by providing several relatives the capital to start their own companies, many of whom turned out to be successful. He started the practice of sending his relatives to different corners of Antarctica to expand his family's influence in the financial world as that was what most of them were interested in.

===Political Career and Presidency of Margate===
With his power in the financial world and his wealth secured, Slender wanted to try his hands in politics. He became the Conservative Coalition's candidate for President in the 2015 general elections. The Margatians, who were tired of the Penguins' Power Party's political dominance and secret corruption, voted him into power. Slender was officially inaugurated on 10th March 2015 as the President of Margate.

====Consolidation of Power====
Upon ascending to the presidency, Slender started using his influence in the Parliament to expand his own powers as president. The Presidential System Act, passed a month after his ascension to power, transformed Margate into a semi-presidential republic. He appointed Henry Yukon to be his Prime Minister and number two man in the government. 

In order to consolidate his powers, Slender founded the non-ideological Margatian National Party, which had the stated objectives of 'national improvement and glorification on the international stage'. He attracted many influential politicians from the PPP and the Conservative Coalition into joining his party. Because of that, it became the largest political party in the country. A snap election held a few months later secured over 73% of all seats in Parliament for the new party, consolidating Slender's political power. 

====2018 Margatian Constitutional Crisis====
Around late 2017, PM Yukon was secretly turning his back against his superior. He formed a small faction within the MNP, which supported him for the Presidency. He planned on enlarging this faction and allying with Opposition political parties to put the Parliament under his control. However, when the snap legislative election occurred next year, none of Yukon's cronies were nominated by the Party to stand for election, while the mostly pro-Slender MNP won the election and took 76% of the seats.

Subsequent investigations revealed that the Opposition and Yukon were trying to commit electoral fraud by bribing the Electoral Committee to destroy votes in certain Parliamentary districts. They countered back with the claim that they were only doing so to challenge the MNP's stranglehold on politics, which was said to be as tight as the former PPP's control of the government and maybe much worse. Yukon's clique and his Opposition then incited Margatians to demonstrate against Slender and seized the Parliament building by force.

As the 20,000 pro-Opposition protesters clashed with the 65,000 pro-Government demonstrators in the streets, Slender decided to restore order by declaring martial law. The military was sent in to suppress the riots, resulting in 84 deaths and 730 injuries reported. In the aftermath, Yukon and many Opposition leaders involved in the plot were found guilty of treason and shot by firing squad. Martial law was only lifted in 2023, when legislative elections were held again. During this period, Slender and a National Presidential Council (which acted like the Cabinet during martial law) governed Margate, whose power derived from the Martial Law Act which gave tremendous power to him.

====Territorial expansion and Imperialism====
During his mandate, Slender planned and directed the systematic conquests of numerous places for Margate. These include the [[Soloraya Archipelago]] and the planet [[Mullinst]]. Many islands have also been placed under Margate's sphere of influence in the form of the [[Margatian Commonwealth]].

In 2026, a [[Shops Civil War|devastating war broke out after political instability in Shops Island]]. Around this time, the [[United Antarctic Nations]] decided to strip Shops of its permanent seat in the Security Council since the dominant faction in the fallen superpower was the tyrannical [[Shopper Empire]]. Taking advantage of this, Slender began to press for Margate to succeed Shops's seat. In the end, he succeeded in getting the international community to grant the seat to his country.

==Death==
On 8 September 2057, Slender passed away in the Presidential Palace. He was subsequently given a state funeral, although his family sponsored the entire event. A week of national mourning was declared, with his solid gold coffin lying in state at the Parliament building for the first two days, and moved to the Palace for the rest of the week before finally being buried at the Mason Family's Necropolis located at the outskirts of Margate City.

==Legacy==
By the time the New Margate Order era ended, Slender was the longest serving Margatian head of state. In the 21st Century, he was both the longest serving leader of a democratic country and, for several occasions, the wealthiest penguin. 

While his administration was initially regarded to be a game-changer for the Margatian state, subsequent corruption and abuses of Slender's own directives and policies by future leaders have tainted his reputation since it was his policies which set the foundation for the later dictatorship.

==Personality==
Slender has often been described by many, including his inner circle, biographers and contemporaries, to be an enigma. He appears to have a constantly changing personality which some thought was a personality disorder. However, those in the know are aware that he is maintaining this in order to confuse and deceive his rivals.

However, several character traits do remain constant in his personality. Slender usually maintains a calm and cool demeanour when talking to others. This is even more apparent during occasions when he was faced with threats. Behind this facade, he was actually ruthless and cunning. If someone ever did him wrong, Slender would ensure that the individual who did so will regret doing so. He also has a soft side as he often helps those in need if he possesses the ability do so. He is also noted to have other traits such as a good sense of humour, generosity (due to his numerous philanthropic activities), lack of compassion (although this is only confined to those who don't deserve it in his opinion), an extroverted persona (but many would think that he was introverted whenever he was emotionally troubled) and sensitive emotions (as explained by how easy it is to make him happy or provoke his silent wrath).

For someone in his position, Slender is surprisingly humble and not much of a showoff. He claimed that humility was an important part of his own moral principles, and often stressed its importance to the usually boastful and 'kiasu' Margatians. This is not to say that his position protects him from other showoffs who attempt to challenge him just because they wanted to, though (after all, Margate is ranked to be the most competitive country in the world for this fundamental truth). It should be noted this constant annoyance has pestered him for almost his entire life, causing him much stress. Some even believed that Slender intentionally succumbed to his own illness in order to avoid it once and for all. Therefore, while his humbleness has gained him the respect of contemporaries both friendly and unfriendly to him, others' lack of it could be considered the only thing which finally defeated him.

==Abilities==
Despite not being a professional soldier, Slender do have some skills in firearms and unarmed combat. However, these were only mediocre, and he often had to rely on his wits to survive.

While he lack physical abilities, Slender does have several good mental abilities. One of these is his ability to read body language very well, which some have mistaken to be mind-reading. This has allowed him to win many heated negotiations with both foreign diplomats, businessmen and local politicians. This ability also allowed him to play card games very well, as it effectively gave him the power to 'read' his opponents' cards. 

Besides that, he also has a photographic memory, however it can only be activated when it was 'triggered', such as during emergency situations when he needs to recall an important detail. Slender also has the ability to speak and even write in many languages, including English, Cantonese, Mandarin Chinese, Malay (good writing skills but average speaking skills), Portuguese (basic conversations only), Spanish (basic conversations only), French (only a few terms) and German.

==Controversies==
===Accusations of controlling the world's finances===
Conspiracy theorists have often accused Slender and his family of controlling the finances of the world due to their power in the financial world and ownership of numerous banks and investment funds, as well as several multinational corporations and conglomerates. While they did have much influence in the financial world, they are a long way from controlling it.

===Repression of political freedoms===
Despite the cultural liberalisation and relaxation of civil rights which occurred in Margate during Slender's presidency, the political situation almost remained unchanged compared to the rule of the Penguins' Power Party. Some even said that there was less political freedom during Slender's presidency than the PPP's rule. Those who criticised the government too severely were still arrested and put under detention without trial. Slender even held nearly unlimited autocratic power in the country for five years in the aftermath of the 2018 Margatian Constitutional Crisis. However, he did relinquish his power as the election year approached and often said that he would only remain in the presidency as long as the Margatian people want him to be.

===Cronyism and nepotism===
Like his prime ministerial predecessors, Slender was often falsely accused of cronyism and nepotism by appointing his friends and relatives to government positions. Slender defended himself by saying that he appointed them in accordance to the New Margate Order's tenet of meritocracy. This is almost true as most of the appointees performed just as well as other government officials. Then again, it couldn't be denied that Slender intentionally had his son Slender II appointed as the Governor of the Central Bank when he was only 19 years old and as the Finance Minister when he was 26 in order to pave the way to the Presidency for him. In private conversations, Slender often said that he wished there could be a Margatian president from his family 'every generations to three, or so'.

==Philanthropy==
Because of his enormous wealth, Slender believes that it is the responsibility of the wealthy to give back to society by performing various philanthropic acts. Some of his include:

#Contributing millions of Club Penguin Coins in donation to the National University of Margate and the Nanhai University of Technology annually.
#Building the Slender Mason Performance Hall in Margate City, which serves numerous purposes such as hosting fundraising events for charities, gala dinners and providing venue for live orchestra and opera performance. 
#Donating 10 to 20 million CPC annually to the Coin for Change charity foundation, giving the foundation the right to decide on which area to spend the money on with the condition that at least 65% of the money be spent on helping the sick and disabled.
#Donating an average of 300,000 CPC to each of the the ten largest charities in Margate annually.

Most notably, Slender passed a law in 2017 which regulated the spendings of charities in order to ensure that donations were actually used for the organisation's official goals and aims. A later law in 2019 made the death sentence mandatory for charity officials who attempt to embezzle from their origami stations.

==Relationships with Other Penguins==
*Alexander Whitaker - Relations between Alex and Slender were quite good since Alex was a high-ranking portfolio manager in Slender's hedge fund before they moved to the political world. Alex first served as the CEO of a sovereign wealth fund for 4 years, before being promoted to the position of Trade Minister, then Deputy Prime Minister and finally Prime Minister after Nathaniel Tang resigned. He succeeded Slender as President after he died. However, Slender II disliked Alex and later played a role in his overthrow and exile.

*Slender II - Seeing that Slender II is his 'true heir apparent', Slender likes him very much. He often showed a positive bias for him, as well as specially strict treatment in order to shape him like his old man. In fact, Slender even paved the road to the Presidency for him and originally intended for Alex to resign after a few years in power so that Slender II could easily become president.

*Terry Chong - First meeting each other in 2013, Terry finally became Slender's girlfriend in 2016. After getting married in 2018, they had 4 chicks. Despite that, their marriage soon became strained due to the eruption of the constitutional crisis that year and the subsequent brutal crackdown on the dissidents. In May 2022, the two divorced. Ever since then, they never saw each other as Terry moved to Honk Gong and later to Calada.

*Jacqueline 'Jackie' Auburn - Slender and Jackie met not long before the former divorced Terry. After 2 months of courtship, the two were finally married and had 3 chicks. Despite that, their ending was not happy at all as Jackie later died of cancer in 2031.

*Diana Siow - Diana was often considered to be Slender's true love. They have known each other since late 2014, when she worked in Slender's presidential campaign team. Their marriage was also the longest marriage Slender enjoyed, lasting from 2032 to Slender's death in 2057.
