# Pastebin JB8harcL So. I want to talk about ideas I have for instruments, but especially https://tickets.metabrainz.org/browse/MBS-9642 merge vocal-tree into instruments, and how to do this so it's not a pita for people I also want to incorporate into this idea the idea about "gear" or "equipment" for things like microphones and speakers, that sometimes is written in album credits, but aren't exactly *instruments* so, at first, something like dynamic attributes, each instrument can have can have a set of enabled things so the problem is that if we merge vocals into instruments now it becomes a problem for users to actually use or access this so my idea is that, the interface actually doesn't change. what happens is that vocals are added as entities. like instruments, but they have a ticketbox, a setting that is "vocal", and things that are programable, like computers, drum machines, synthesisers, etc, they'll have a "programable" ticketbox, like vocaloid is both "vocal" and "programable" :D so then when an user checks to use vocals; in the drop-down list, it'll only show the "instruments" that have been given the "vocal" attribute, and in "programmed" only instruments with "programmable" will show (so people will no longer be able to chose analogue instruments for this) this way also, we can make sure people can't use certain instruments we do not wish them too use, by simply unchecking any of these so we can also have another category, "gear" which has things like microphones or specific speakers or gizmos or whate- have you, computers, things which are credited in releases but aren't *instruments* *exactly* it's even possible to do it so that we can add an "electrified" attribute (because an acoustic guitar or violin or whatever can have a piezoelectric pickup added or some other magnetic one) this is completely different from an electric guitar or violin! (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jD0HonMvgnA ) if we just added a "can be electric" ticket now people just use it wrongly, like use it on electric guitar or on regular guitar(family), by choosing only specific instruments that can have an additional electrified pickup(or not) it means also I don't have to add something like" electric-acoustic guitar" which is something that exists, but is just an acoustic guitar with an added piezoelectric pickup. I'm also thinking about likembe which can be electrified with added pickups - adding separate instruments for every thing that can be boosted this way could figuratively double the instrument amounts for no goodreason. with this attribute driven filtering for the relationship adding, we can help users have less over-whelming lists of stuff to chose from, make sure that people don't, pick analogue drums to program, confuse "alto" (the voice) with "alto" (the instrument) when we merge vocal tree. which basically hinges on this one implementation of "voices how do we make this not confusing for people" https://community.metabrainz.org/t/merge-vocals-into-instruments-style-609/105524
