# Pastebin In7nJmTM 11:18 AM <~barredowl> i think that's pretty much everyone who's here. so, shall we start with our first impressions? 11:18 AM <+cybersqyd> this feels...exceedingly one note 11:18 AM <~barredowl> honestly, yeah. also noting that, dado really doesn't work with long-form prose. 11:19 AM <%red3> This is bogged down by unnecessary references and memes which date the article, but when it tries to create comedy by itself it usually works. 11:19 AM <+cybersqyd> there's something about dado's dialogue which feels....generic? 11:19 AM <+cybersqyd> it reminds me of SCP-049 a lot 11:19 AM I actually enjoyed this one from the perspective of dado. Interestingly enough is that dado made sure to name drop the Manna Charity Foundation as well as the SCP. I do agree that the outdated memes and references do make this a bit dated but it does work in its favour 11:20 AM <~barredowl> yeah, i sorta got that a lot. dado really only works with small-concept things. 11:20 AM <~barredowl> and when that's stretched to something this long, i just... unfortunately didn't get a lot out of this. 11:20 AM <+cybersqyd> yeah 11:21 AM <~barredowl> i don't really have a lot to say about this, honestly. this just, didn't reach me all that much. 11:21 AM <+cybersqyd> mmm yeah 11:22 AM <+cybersqyd> the ending feels like it's trying to make some kind of point about capitalism/the police but it feels like all it really succeeds at is saying 'dado is a hypocrit' 11:22 AM <%red3> I'm finding it really difficult to sum up my thoughts on this. I like it, but it's difficult to explain why. 11:23 AM Echoing red3 here, I like this but its hard to explain why we like this 11:24 AM <+cybersqyd> i find it resoundingly meh; i think it's just cos i've read it before and it doesn't really offer...much of anything beyond the dado humour 11:24 AM <~barredowl> i think this is just meh for me as well. 11:24 AM <%red3> There are a few sprinkles of variety here and there between the sentences, but I do agree that it doesn't go quite far enough with its concept. It's like dado's dialogue is a separate language, and the article's too scared to rely on the reader understanding that language and too confident to tailor the jokes to readers who don't. 11:24 AM <~barredowl> i've realized, for some reason a lot of tales feel a bit impenetrable to me. probably cause i don't read as many of them as i do for SCP's. 11:24 AM <+cybersqyd> tales i find are very hit or miss 11:25 AM <+cybersqyd> i tend to bounce off them super easily, particularly if they're long 11:25 AM <~barredowl> yeah, i think that about sums up tales for me, unfortunately. 11:25 AM <%red3> Well, it's a lot easier to get tales wrong because they're based in more traditional prose. The SCP format is a lot more stripped-down. 11:25 AM <~barredowl> that has been changing, though, which is good. 11:26 AM → Popsioak joined (uid397494@frozen.garden) 11:26 AM <+cybersqyd> red3, yeah, I think you're right to some extent. It also feels like a lot of them are more content to being just...mediocre cos they get less scrutiny? 11:26 AM <+cybersqyd> idk it's hard to say 11:27 AM <%red3> That's true. It's also harder to scrutinize just because of how subjective the medium is. With the SCP format, it's really easy to identify if the Description or the ConProcs are just bad, but with traditional writing, almost everything is subjective. 11:27 AM <+cybersqyd> yeah 11:28 AM <%red3> But to summarize my final thoughts on this, it employs a lot of tricks to try and get a laugh out of the reader. The only one that I chuckled at was the second footnote. And while I did somewhat enjoy my experience reading through this, it doesn't go far enough to really get me laughing besides one cheap gag. 11:28 AM <~barredowl> hmm 11:29 AM If we're on our final thoughts, I will say I do like dado when they do the thing their good at: medicine and drugs. So with this in mind, while I certainly enjoyed this, its gonna have to be a novote from me 11:30 AM <%red3> I did notice that I enjoyed the comedy most when it sounded completely out of character for dado. The second footnote is the epitome of this, since I can't exactly remember the last time dado swore in an article. That sudden shift was enough to make me chuckle. 11:30 AM <~barredowl> but yeah, think i've summed up my position on this. this really didn't do anything for me, partly because i just didn't, jive with the dado prose here 11:30 AM <~barredowl> this is a downvote from me. 11:31 AM <%red3> Novote from me.
